Rachel Byass ceramics (formally known as Fired Art Designs) was opened as a Pottery/Ceramics in 1983 in Pontefract, West Yorkshire by owner Rachel Byass.
The studio has been refurbished to a very high standard from its original use as an old Mill. The building is approximately 200 years old.
In recent years another large room has been added upstairs which accommodates 5 pottery wheels, 2 slab rollers, and 6 large extruders.
We have a variety of resources and tools to make “Claying around” with clay a lot of fun.
The free car park has also been redesigned to hold up to 8 cars. The studio has full wheelchair access downstairs. We also have accommodation in two apartments sleeping up to 10 people on an event over both apartments.
Over the years I have completed various training courses to perfect my skills in both Pottery and Ceramic Design work.
I love what I do which makes it a pleasure to provide a relaxing and enjoyable experience bring out the creativity in all ages.
I trained in Ceramics/Pottery and Decorative Art, both in the UK as well as in the US and Canada gaining many teaching Certifications in these subjects too many to mention.
I take pride in sharing my knowledge and experience with my students to enable them to build up their skills.
At the studio we host Special Events in ceramics and pottery such as Hen/ Stag nights or afternoons, Lady’s nights and Children’s Parties. We are able to tailor each event to the needs of the group and can cater for between 6 and 16 people over 7 days a week. This can be at the studio as well as on a mobile basis. I also am involved in training adults with special needs which I love to do.
I enjoy the work on the pottery wheel and can offer one to one as well as group tuition. It’s amazing what people can produce on the potter’s wheel with someone to guide and support them.
Liz has worked with Rachel for 24 years and loves to teach and is the great organiser in the team. Liz has also gained a teaching certification in Duncan ceramics and done lots of courses over the years.
