This is a pure Stoneware wheel-throwing pottery course that will take you through some of the basics of the process using stoneware clay. The course has been designed to give you an overview of wheel-throwing in a supported way with step-by-step instructions.
Most ceramics courses are large making it difficult to learn and normally 2 hours rather than 3.
Each person will have use of their own wheel throughout the class. You will be taught how to wedge clay to prepare it for the throwing process, how to center the clay on the wheel
Week 1 – how to throw a cylinder we normally throw 3 and then cut 2 up to learn how thick it should be and how to make a perfect pot. We keep one to fire and glaze
Week 2 – we make a mug and a bowl as well as how to trim your pots.
Week 3 – Putting handle on your mug and throwing a dish for the oven
Week 4 – Making a large bowl and using coloured slip to then hand carve throw to the first colour of clay called sgraffito
Week 5 – edging two colours of clay to make an agate wear vase and finish carving the bowl from week 4
